Bandarban is regarded as one of the most attractive travel destinations in Bangladesh having the three highest peaks in Bangladesh – Tahjindong, Mowdok Mual and Keokradong. Chimbuk Peak and Boga Lake are two more highly noted features of the district. The Sangu River runs through Bandarban. Nilachal, Nilgiri,Sorno mandir or golden Temple and Meghla tourism complex are some of the famous tourist spots in the Bandarban hill district. A nearly 52 km2 hill town accommodates about 32,000 people, of whom the majority are Marma. There are more than fifteen ethnic minorities living in the district including Marma or Rakhine. There are many local bazaars to sell locally grown products by the tribe people. Marma bazaar is a temporary market where local tribal people sell their goods, mainly vegetables, on the open street on both sides keeping the middle for walking by the customers and passersby. It is not a permanent place for trading, however, there are permanent shophouses that remain open throughout the week. The Marma market remains open from morning to evening on Sunday and Wednesday. This market or bazaar or Bazar is famous as most women are the sellers in this market. This is because the women in the Marma society are the owners and heads of the family. They do business, work in the field, and sell their own produced products. When you will be at the Marma bazaar, you will see women shopkeepers. Even you will see that most of the customers are also women. There are some shops which are run by Bangalis, but those are very few. মারমা বাজার সাঙ্গু নদীর ধারে টাউনশিপ এলাকার উত্তর সীমানায় মধ্যম পাড়ায় অবস্থিত। Marma Bazaar is located at the Maddhyam Para, near the northern territory of the township area beside the river Sangu. This market is also called the ‘Farmers’ Market’ as local people sell their own products, mainly agricultural commodities, here. In this market, the sellers are mainly women from poor families who travel through difficult mountain paths and sell vegetables in the markets Indian pennywort, mesta, spiny gourd, bitter gourd, tomato, elephant foot yam and bamboo shoots are sold here. The ladies also sell many non-traditional vegetables including cane tip, turmeric flower, water hyacinth flower, Oroxylum indicum bean, mustard flower, wild taro leaf, wild ferns, banana flowers, etc. Along with these, our Bangladeshi vegetables are also available in this bazaar. You will find all types of edible items which are non-traditional and produced in a jungle without any care. The distinctive feature of this bazaar is that here almost all the sellers are women.
